My name is Yichen and I am co-mentored by Francisco Bezanilla and Joshua Rosenthal. My work focuses on perhaps the most basic unit of neuronal excitations: ion channels. In particular, I study the biophysical properties of voltage-gated sodium channels and how its unique features contribute to action potential. I combine electrical together with optical measurements to describe the molecular motion of the channel during excitation in normal or pathological conditions.
Outside the lab, I enjoy hiking and listening to music, and Chicago is a great city for both. The trails along the Michigan Lake not only have great views but also can take you right to the downtown where great concerts and performances are always happening!
